OEE Preceptors

Welcome to the Office of Experiential Education Preceptor Resource Centre

Thank you for your interest in Experiential Education at the University of British Columbia, and for taking the time to explore this website.  We cannot educate pharmacy learners without the involvement of you - our pharmacy preceptors in practice education.  Preceptors are a vital link in the student’s transition from theory to practice.  Preceptors provide learners with many practice opportunities to apply didactic knowledge in a clinical setting that cannot be fully realized in the classroom.   Preceptors provide learners with individualized attention and feedback.    Many learners would be overwhelmed at the clinical site without preceptor support and guidance.  Students need pharmacists to coach, mentor and guide their interactions and decision making.   We are indebted to our preceptors for their time and effort to facilitate the student’s personal and professional growth.   We applaud our preceptors for acknowledging the shared commitment and responsibility to educate the pharmacists of tomorrow.

THANK YOU for partnering with us in this very important and critical role.

Why become a pharmacy preceptor?

There are several, significant benefits to the preceptor and training site, for example:

  • Train pharmacy students to provide superior care and improve patient health care outcomes
  • Pharmacy students are educated to enhance patient care initiatives and add value (eg. Projects, medication therapy management, adaptation, medication reconciliation)
  • Pharmacy staff have an opportunity to learn from students, as students often bring new knowledge and innovative ideas
  • Pharmacy staff will maintain or develop new skills and gain experience as educators and supervisors
  • Attract pharmacy students to the organization
  • Partner with the academic institution on projects and research initiatives
